Genome-Wide Analysis Reveals Selection For Important Traits In Domestic Horse Breeds

Genome-Wide Analysis Reveals Selection For Important Traits In Domestic Horse Breeds: Selective breeding in horses focuses on preserving and improving traits related to aesthetics and performance. This study found that the Speed Gene is highly desirable to Paint and Quarter Horse breeders and that the C allele results in significantly higher Type IIB and lower Type I gluteal muscle fibres. Furthermore, another region was found to be selected in horses with an alternative gait, such as tolt or pace, and another for the determination of size in draft and miniature horse breeds.
