Irish equine science company Plusvital has just announced a new partnership with Dubai Equine Hospital, who will now offer the company’s innovative genetic tests for Thoroughbred horses. The purpose of Plusvital’s genetic testing is to provide objective, scientific information to support breeding, training and race entry decisions.
Speaking on the announcement of this new partnership, Plusvital CEO Mike Shelly said: “We are delighted that an organisation with such a distinguished tradition of service in equine care as Dubai Equine Hospital has chosen to partner with Plusvital for the provision of genetic tests to their clients.[vc_single_image image=”6785″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”]The Plusvital genetic tests on offer through Dubai Equine Hospital can help to increase strike rates, and in turn, prize money by providing trainers and owners alike with objective scientific information on each individual horse’s optimum race distance, as well as preferred race surface.”
Speaking on behalf of Dubai Equine Hospital, Dr Abdullah al Mutery said “Dubai Equine Hospital is very pleased to announce our partnership with Plusvital. Genetic testing for racehorses has been gaining momentum in recent years and Plusvital have been at the forefront of developing this new technology. We believe these tests will be very attractive to our clients and we look forward to working with Plusvital over the coming years as they continue to launch innovative genomic tests around health traits in addition to their current performance tests.
The Plusvital genetic tests that will be available through Dubai Equine Hospital include The Speed Gene Test, as well as the Distance Plus Test, which further refines a horse’s optimum trip. Both these tests may be combined as part of Plusvital’s Racing GenePak, which also offers the option of the Dirt vs Turf Test to identify a horse’s genetic preference for a given race surface.
The most high-profile example of the use of Plusvital’s genetic testing for a horse in training was the decision last summer to withdraw 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold from the Epsom Derby following confirmation that he had tested as a C:C sprint type as per the Speed Gene Test. Galileo Gold has continued to excel at a mile following that decision, including winning the St. James’ Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. This is just one example of approximately 15,000 Thoroughbreds that have been tested worldwide to date.
Prices for Plusvital’s genetic tests start at just 1,285 AED
